Assistant Teacher & Mentor Program
Educational Objectives
experience dance from a different angle
enhance dance knowledge
enhance personal technical understanding and instill leadership skills
identify proper class structure and why
be able to break down and communicate the "how and why" of the movement
accept all students regardless of skill level
develop mentoring skills
manage and lead a class and/or group
develop a proper understanding of age-appropriate movement and choreography
use dance and choreography notation
receive an overall introduction to education from a teacher perspective (potential to make a teaching career)
receive constructive feedback to enhance teaching skills
Academic Benefits
may request letters of recommendation for college applications
may request letters of recommendation for college from parents of students with permission from the director
mentoring and working with children is an asset on college applications
name, headshot, and biography will be featured on our website and at the studio
will receive credits to use toward dance classes ($9 credit per hour)
Eligibility
must be between the ages of 13-18
at least 2 years of class participation at KC Dance Expressions
enrolled in a minimum of 2 classes per week at the studio
commitment to the entire season (September through June)
agrees to arrive 15 minutes prior to scheduled classes
acknowledges responsibility to be a role model and positive example both inside and outside the studio
agrees to follow dress code policies at all times
acquires parent/guardian approval for both program participation and the time commitment required
must maintain academic grades at a level required by parent/guardian
submit application signed by both the student and parent/guardian
accepted into program by director
