Robert (Rob) Dio

Rob, a Massachusetts native, began his professional training at the Boston Ballet School and matriculated to the University of Hartford, Hartt School of Music in Hartford,
Connecticut 1996, to pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Ballet Performance. Here he trained in many forms of dance including both Cicchetti and Vaganova ballet, modern forms like Graham, Cunningham and Laban. His teachers have included Franco DeVita, Raymond Lukens, Kirk Peterson, and Alla Osipenko to name a few. While at the Hartt School of Music, Robert performed with the Hartford ballet dancing in productions of Giselle, Sleeping Beauty, Firebird, and Kirk Peterson’s New American Nutcracker. He also danced with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra in their rendition of Orpheus in the Underworld.
Under the tutelage of Peggy Lyman he performed the male lead in Martha Graham’s Acts of Light which earned him a full scholarship to the Martha Graham School in New York City. Robert was offered positions with both the Colorado Ballet, Kansas City Ballet, and Martha Graham. Robert started and finished his career with the Kansas City Ballet where he premiered in numerous full-length ballets and modern dance pieces. Robert continues to dance to this day and hopes to pass along his passion and love of the arts to the next generation of talented dancers! He is also a
Zumba Instructor.
