Mini Ballet/Tap Combo
Students experience a nurturing, class environment that involves ballet/jazz and tap. Students practice following directions, waiting their turn, and sharing with others, all while dancing and playing games. Rhythm and coordination are also explored.
Ballet
Ballet class starts with exercises at the barre. Students then perform center work, followed by across the floor combinations. Class always ends with reverence. Proper body placement, strength, and coordination are explored in this class.
Pointe
Ballet class taken in addition to Level III/IV Ballet for those dancers who meet criteria. Students who demonstrate requirements to dance en pointe will receive a letter at the end of the year (May) inviting them to take Pointe the following year.
Tap
Tap class starts with a warm-up of the feet and ankles. Students will perform across the floor progressions and center work. Students practice rhythm and coordination in class. Class will end with a cool down to loosen muscles.
Jazz
Jazz class consists of a warm-up in center involving isolations, stretching, and strengthening. Students will perform across the floor progressions and center combinations. We will explore musicality, rhythm, and style. Class will end with a cool down to prevent injuries.
Contemporary
Contemporary is an expressive style of movement that incorporates ballet, jazz, lyrical, and modern elements. In class, students will explore proper technique, body placement, alignment, control, and improvisation.
Modern
Modern is a free style dance form of expression in which students can utilize all forms of training and improvisation. In class, students will learn all forms of modern dance including Horton (strength), Graham (contraction and release), Cunningham (isolation), and Limon (fall and recovery), as well as develop his or her own dance style.
Lyrical
Lyrical class involves expressing one’s self through movement. Class begins with a warm-up. Students perform exercises promoting strength, grace, and emotion. These exercises draw in elements from jazz and ballet technique. Class always ends with a cool down.
Hip Hop
Hip Hop class begins with a warm-up involving isolations, stretching, and strengthening. Students learn popular moves from movies, television, and music videos, as well as learn rhythm and musicality in combinations.
Musical Theater
Musical Theater is a fusion of acting, dancing, and some singing. Students focus on acting and dancing through improvisation, character development, learning to tell stories through movement, and facial expression.
Acro
Acro class is a great class for students to increase agility, flexibility, and strength. During a typical acro class, students explore the concepts of flexibility, balance, muscle control, strength, discipline, and coordination. They will learn such things as handstands, chest stands, cartwheels, back bends, walkovers, and other contortion tricks.
